Hello,
Kate Bornstein here. I wanna sing some songs of praise for Gail Leondar-Wright. I know this letter is going out to other writers, and what's funny is that I got one of these kinds of letters about Gail, a lon-n-n-ng time ago. I was a playwright and journalist back then, and I didn't need a publicist for that kind of writing. But things have changed, and my identity has changed ::grin:: and now I'm ::blush:: an author (it's so hard to use that word!), and I do need a publicist if I ever want my stuff to be noticed in the media glut we're living in. I've been working with Gail for nearly two years, and I'm very happy for this time--our working relationship has literally changed my life.
My publishers (Routledge and Vintage) have done what I think is a great job in promoting me and my book, Gender Outlaw. What I learned, however, is that for the most part, a publisher will promote a book during the time of its release. Period. Thanks to my publishers, Gender Outlaw got a great start. Thanks to Gail, there hasn't been a ten-day period in the last two years where my book hasn't been featured in some form of media, be it magazines, newspapers, radio, television, or plastered across the internet. ::wide grin::
It's not just what Gail does, though—it's how she does it. Gail promotes only works she personally believes in; and she promotes her authors with both understanding and enthusiasm for our work. On numerous occasions, producers and interviewers alike have told me just how much they enjoy working with Gail. That goes a long way to getting coverage. Coverage goes a long way to getting sales. And sales goes a long way to getting new book contracts. I'm learning all this stuff.
The fact is, we live in a PR world. To date, it's only been the bad guys who've had control of the media on account of their bucks and their savvy. Gail Leondar-Wright knows what she is doing, and I would unhesitantly recommend her to any of my colleagues.
